    Hi

Is there a choir in Normandy not too far from Domfront..similar to a rock choir, just singing for fun.

It’s a great shame that there hasn’t been a response to this.

For all the to-ings and fro-ings on various forums in relation to life in France and Normandy in particular, there is precious little relating to cultural life in general. A brief glimpse on this forum shows only some dozen postings in relation to clubs and associations over the last year.

Any mention to anything relating to painting – ‘fraid not. Pottery and craft – precious little.

Being a musician myself (and hence the reference to forming a choir) there are enormous difficulties in getting together with fellow players simply because of the distances involved. Once you’ve done a few jam sessions, that really is it and one of the main pleasures of advancing your talent is getting together with like souls for some serious practice – maybe the odd gig or two.

The red tape involved in premises giving musicians the opportunities to play  make it all but impossible to work through and this is a huge disappointment for those of us who just want to be involved.

I think that maybe there is a fair amount of apathy involved but I really do wish Polly the very best of luck in her endeavours.

    PS – I can’t sing!!

John, If Polly heard me sing (I don’t know if that is the correct word in my case) she would seek a court injunction to keep me away.

But I agree with you. No-one seems to have any interest in culture. Last year I asked if anyone was interested in a writers group, but it never got off the ground. I had someone asked if I was interested in a book club, but that is something completely different.

As for music, I am learning to play, but money for lessons ran out, so it’s down to internet, books, and just practising the same things over and over.

Jam sessions? I have one jar of strawberry jam left over from last year, and two jars of gooseberry from 2013. The apricot jam I made last year was wonderful, so I will make more this year. What do you mean, that’s not the kind of jam sessions you were talking about?  :yahoo:

Indeed not John – But I would imagine your jam sessions are a bit cheaper!

The new bar/restaurant McBurnies in Sourdeval are staging Open Mic nights every month. 2nd of April is the next one. I believe that the Red Lion also does, but I haven’t ventured to either yet.

I know of a couple of guitar players, bass, rhythm and a lead who are always looking for a jam session and other players, drums, singers etc etc. I’ll pass on your details if anyone is interested, they’re mainly based around Villedieu and Mortain area…..HH

Sounds like a walrus giving birth to farm machinery……….. no, seriously, rock, rhythm and blues, and they’re very good.  The classics, Led Zep, Eagles, ZZ Top, Muddle Puddle, a bit of Jack White et al.

Will have to check with the boss, but I think we might go to McBurnies to support my friend, can introduce you if you identify yourself to me……HH
